Quick Fix: Kodi Add Ons Not Getting Updated – Solve On All Devices

If you too are having troubles updating your kodi addons automatically via the Kodi addons update interface, here’s what you should do.

Updated Jul 30, 2017Quick Fix

A tiny bug in Kodi’s upgrade process may have been the culprit which brought some of your addons to a non-updateable status.

However, lucky for all who suffers from this bug, it can be easily resolved without much need for any technical orientation.

In the following, I’ll demonstrate two methods by which you can fix the bug, both methods accomplish the same goal, yet differ in the way of execution.

Note: addons and specific addons configuration might be reset in the process – use at your own responsibility.

1) Quick Method (Require Access To A File Browser)

If your Kodi is installed on a PC or a similar platform where you have access to a file manager, simply –

Open up your file browser and go inside Kodi’s user-data directory (the same directory we used in How to clear Kodi’s addons cache the manual way).

Tip: if you’re unsure how to get there, use this table for assistance.

From Kodi’s userdata folder, go into Database folder and and there simply delete all the files which ends with a “.db” suffix (database files).

files with "db" suffix

Restart your Kodi if you had it opened, and enjoy the ability to update once again!

2) Cross Platform Method

Open your Kodi and navigate from the home screen into SYSTEM > File manager > Profile directory > Database.

kodi system

File manager Kodi

Kodi profile directory

Kodi database directory

In here select all the files which ends with a “.db” suffix and delete them one by one.

Kodi delete db files

Restart your Kodi and enjoy the ability to update once again!

If you’ve opened Kodi and discovered that the previously available updates are suddenly gone, don’t sweat it!

Manually get Kodi to check for updates once again by going into SYSTEM > Add-ons and invoking the left sidebar menu, select Check for updates.

I have the KODI Krypton 17.3 and have followed this method to the T, and after doing do so, the whole KODI app reverts back to standard platform status as if it's a new install (if a build like Durex is installed and running) and I had to reinstall Fusion Repo to then run Indigo to reset the way I had before doing this and my update issue still persist.

I put back my Kodi the way I like it several times (Very Time Consuming) and each time I did this fix, it would just wipe clean the app as new again and the db files would also be back as if never taken out.

HELP! I want my BAMF TV Back! (In the Oblivion Repo) :-(

Tried this and does not work. Have Krypton 17.1.

This absolutely doesn't work. I have tried this twice thus far. If you delete addons.db everything is gone.

It wiped out everything I had. I wish I read this comment before hand

Hi Steve, Have you tried following the links you've posted? the first 2 are dead, that's why they don't work any more. As for Roja, I just test it and it works fine with the latest version (currently 2015.11.08).
