3. Rekonq
A lightweight web browser based on QtWebKit engine, it’s developed by the KDE free software project, in contrast to Konqueror, which has been KDE’s main web browser for years, rekonq aims to be a standalone and simple web browser.
Amongst its unique features are the lightweight-ness of its size ~3.96MiB on my current Gentoo system, and its fantastic integration with the KDE environment.
2. Midori
Regular iWillFolo readers would probably be familiar with this next one, as stated in the article Midori Browser – the Best lightweight Alternative to Firefox / Chrome it is lightweight, I mean very lightweight, even more than Rekonq – only 2.1 MiB on my system.
Midori too relies upon the WebKit layout engine and has a set of features which is close to be on par with common mainstream browsers such as Chrome or Firefox.
Taken under Elementary OS default applications set, its UI design seems to get slicker and better with every new version that’s being rolled out.
1. QupZilla
The newest project inside this list, it’s also seems to be one of the most promising ones as well.
QupZilla is intended for general users. It allows seamless integration with users’ desktop environments and has several distinguishing features under its sleeve, for instance
Unified Library – QupZilla unifies bookmarks, history and rss reader in one well-arranged window – convenient but also efficient.
Just as the rest of the bunch (except for Konqueror) QupZilla too is relying upon WebKit as its layout engine which makes it both fast and compatible with common web pages you may surf into.
Finally, as always when it comes to open source softwares – the choice is great and so does the number of opinions behind it, hence I urge you to try the browsers you find intriguing and decide which one you like best based on your own experience.
