Android Nougat 7.1 New Features – Here’s What’s Coming

Still under the “Nougat” code name, Android 7.1 is an “incremental update” based on the 7.0 version, rather than being a major upgrade of its predecessor as was with ICS (4.0) and Jelly Bean (4.1).

Nonetheless, interesting new features managed to make their way into this version too and following are the most notable ones:

New Features Of Android 7.1

– App Shortcuts: a feature many of you may know as ‘launcher jump lists’, apps will now be able to have up to 5 action shortcuts ready for instant launch.

So, for instance, you’ll now be able to launch a ‘new private window’ of your favorite Android web browser right from its launcher, instead of opening up the app, click settings and then launch one. Granted that the app developer has implemented that specific shortcut, of course.

Image keyboard support: new types of content will now be available to input straight from the keyboard, such as, custom stickers, animated gifs, and more.

Storage manager Intent: apps will now be able to take you directly into a new Settings screen to clear unused files and free up storage space on the device.

Support for circular app icons: to match their new Pixel launcher (formerly known as Nexus launcher), google has added support for circular app icons.

Later this year / beginning of next year (depends on your device type) it’s planned to be released and supported on the following devices:
