Instant messaging App – WhatsApp Messenger has recently added a new feature which allow you to see whether a message you’ve sent has been read by the recipient.

However, on the other side of the coin, this also means that the information of whether you’ve read a message you received or not is also being shared as well, which might be considered a privacy invasion by some.

Luckily, there’s now a way to deal with this issue by turning the new ‘Read receipts’ feature off.

Note: currently this is only possible for Android users of the App.

Turn Off Read receipts Feature

In order to be able to turn off the new read receipts (blue ticks) feature, you’ll need to have:

Requirements

  • The latest WhatsApp version (2.11.444 or above), available from here.
  • An Android device.

What to do?

Simply, open up WhatsApp Messenger > click on the menu button > go inside Settings > Account > Privacy > untick Read receipts (see image).

That’s it! Of course, as it says below the read receipts feature will still be active in group chats. Although, since this feature is relatively new, this might change in the future.
